KAFUBU WATER IN US$10M TECH BOOST

KAFUBU Water and Sanitation Company KWSC (KWSC) has received stateof-the-art electrical equipment worth more than US$10 million that will help to boost the pumping of water and improve water supply in various townships of Luanshya and Ndola

KWSC Manager Marketing and Public Relations Misheck Moyo said the State of the Art Electrical Equipment for the Midway and intake pump stations were situated in Luanshya district and were currently under constructi­on and were at 90 percent complete

Mr Moyo said KWSC Engineers and experts from the China Complete Engineerin­g Corporatio­n (CEEC) will soon start installing the equipment to set the stage for the improved water supply, starting from boosting the pumping of water to general improvemen­t of water supply

"KWSC has received State of the Art Electrical Equipment worth more than US$10 million. This will help to double or boost the pumping of water. KWSC currently pumps 1300 cubic meters of water per hour, but with the acquisitio­n of this equipment, Luanshya Makoma treatment plant will be producing over 2300 cubic meters of water per hour.

"The equipment received so far include; four, 1.6 MVA transforme­rs, 4 by 560 kilowatts pumps, 3 by 280 kilowatts, PLC panels, computers, various electric cables, electrical motors, starter panels, valves and various switch gears. The installati­on of the new equipment will double the amount of water supply that KWSC is pumping to its customers in both Ndola and Luanshya districts,'' Mr Moyo said

Mr Moyo said, once fully installed, residents of Ndola and Luanshya will see an improvemen­t in hours of water supply KWSC in the respective districts. Mr Moyo said KWSC was determined to continue improving service delivery through the provision of clean and safe water supply to residents despite the challenges that the firm was faced with, like the rampant vandalism and thefts of water installati­ons

He said the water utility company has in the recent past suffered setbacks like vandalism and thefts, in its efforts to improve water supply, but advised residents to work with the company in fighting thefts and the scourge of vandalism.

"The utility is urging residents in the service areas of KWSC to help report all suspected vandals to the nearest police station. The scourge of vandalism and theft of water installati­ons need concerted efforts.
