CONSTRUCTION OF UNIVERSITY TEACHING STALLS AS NWP PS RAISES CONCERN
NORTH- WESTERN province Permanent Secretary Col Grandson Katambi is concerned with the delay in the commencement of the construction of the university teaching hospital in Solwezi district.
On 14 May last year, vice president Mutale Nalumango officiated at the ground breaking ceremony to mark the construction of the facility in the mining town.
During the ceremony the second most powerful person in zambia assured the people of North western province that the construction would start immediately.
But since then, nothing is happening on the construction site which is situated in Kazhiba area.
And provincial Permanent Secretary is concerned as to why the much talked about project has staled despite assurances that works would start immediately.
The Permanent Secretary recalled when Labour and Social Services minister Brenda Tambatamba called on him that the Minister of Health Silvia Masebo came into the province to check the identified piece of land.
"Eventually, we where privileged to have in our midst Her Honour the vice president Mutale Nalumango coming to officiate at the ground breaking ceremony.
"And we where told that that project was going to take off almost immediately," lamented the Permanent Secretary.
He told the minister that so far, there is nothing happening at the site despite assurances.
"Actually, as we speak, the site is even covered in over grown elephant grass," he said.
He stated that nothing is coming through as to when the contractor will move on site.
And Ms Tambatamba assured the Permanent Secretary to make a follow up on the matter with her counterpart at the ministry of Health.
