- By LUCY PHIRI

ZAMBIA Congress of trade union (ZCTU) has described President Hakainde Hichilema as an emerging global leader, who is attracting the attention of other world leaders on how he has been managing the affairs of the country.

Blake Mulala, the ZCTU president says President Hichilema is not only the Zambian President but the President for all nations across Africa and the World.

He was speaking at the commemoration of International Labour day yesterday in Lusaka under the theme: “Accelerating job creation for economic growth.”

Mr Mulala said he had been to other countries outside Zambia and that the people of those countries were considering President Hichilema not a President of Zambia only but that of their countries. He claimed that peace and tranquility had returned to Zambia after President Hichilema had ascended to the leadership of the country.

Mr Mulala accused the previous government of the Patriotic Front (PF) of being a violent regime, claiming that union leaders under the former ruling party were not spared from the hooliganism that was associated with the Patriotic Front at the time.

“Mr President (Hichilema), I have been to other countries and your name keeps on coming up in those countries. The people in those countries are President Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia is an emerging global leader,” Mr Mulala said.

He said when there is economic growth, everyone needed it because it was the only be possible way of creating jobs supported by the local people.

“Zambia has a population of skilled workers, introducing skill workers for available skills, and taking advantage of local skills before expatriation. We heard a lot of expatriates have taken the jobs which many Zambians are supposed to take,’’ Mr Mulala said. Mr. Mulala stated that the union is also mindful of the illegal mining taking place in the country, and requests that there should be order in the manner the mining is being handled.

“Your government is losing resources in terms of revenue and lives are being lost because of the manner in which these activities are being managed,’’ said Mr. Mulala.
