YOUTHS URGED TO PARTICIPATE IN DECISION MAKING

-

THE Youth Development Organization ( YDO) has urged youths to take advantage of the current government’s decentralized governance approach to participate in policy making.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, YDO Executive Director Partner Siabutuba stated that the decentralized way of governing gives people at grassroot level an opportunity to participate in national matters.

“Youths need to take advantage of the new dawn government’s way of doing things. Currently, ward development committees are given powers to decide on many things in communities, and youths should take keen interest in participating in such initiatives,” he said.

Mr. Siabutuba said youths should strive to become people that society can depend on to take up the leadership mantle from aging leaders.

I now challenge youths to change that notion and be people that society can depend on,” he said.

Mr. Siabutuba also noted the need for an increased youth representation in decision making processes in higher offices.

He however commended President Hakainde Hichilema for increasing youth participation in national matters.

And Mr. Siabutuba disclosed that YDO is currently running programmes that are targeting to train youths in leadership.

He stated that the training is aimed at enhancing leadership knowledge in youths in communities so that their contributions to policy making and governance issues come from an informed point of view.

He urged leaders from all walks of life to take keen interest in imparting youths with leadership knowledge.

He has since challenged other stakeholders to emulate YDO’s innovative of training youths in leadership programmes.
