Sinazongwe murdered teacher put to rest

THE female teacher who was brutally murdered by her husband in Sinazongwe district of Southern province was put to rest on Sunday while the culprit remained in Police custody.

The burial of Christer Haloongo attracted the attention of thousands of people from all walks of life including the District Commission­er who led Government officials while others were from the Ministry of Education and the Community at large.

Speaking during the burial, Sinzongwe District Commission­er Nchimunya Siakole expressed sadness over the death of Christer Haloongo and described the circumstan­ces in which she died as bad.

Mr. Siakole said it was a big loss not only to Sinazongwe District but the nation at large because the deceased teacher was dependable through her hard work displayed in her line of duties.

He called on the law enforcemen­t agencies to ensure that the culprit and those who would commit similar criminal activities face the wrath of the law.

“I am very disappoint­ed with murder of the Teacher by her husband and I am calling on others to learn a lesson from what has happened, it is very unfortunat­e because both the family, Government and community at large have lost out”, he said.

And Sinazongwe District Education Board Secretary Victor Moyo said the teaching fraternity in Sinazongwe district has been robbed of a hard working teacher in Ms Haloongo.

Mr. Moyo said the deceased was a qualified and reliable teacher and circumstan­ces under which she died were very unfortunat­e.

He added that his office will help in timely processing of the benefits for the children of the deceased.

Christer Haloongo 40 was murdered at her home in Mwananjoke village on May 3rd, 2023 around 19 hours by the husband Kanyemba Chikanya 45 who is currently in Police custody.

It is alleged that Ms. Haloongo was stabbed using a knife on

the right side of the chest and later died due excessive bleeding and investigat­ions have since been instituted into the motive behind the suspected murder.
