TITANIC CLASH

…as big guns Zesco and Nkana renew rivalry

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

NDOLA giants Zesco United and Kitwe’s Nkana FC will today renew their rivalry when they face off in a FAZ Week-33 fixture which promises sparks at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Zesco will fight to avenge the 1-0 defeat suffered the last time they faced the Kitwe outfit in a Week-16 fixture played on December 3 2022 at Nkana Stadium.

While Nkana will be fighting for bragging rights as they sit on ninth position on the log with 45 points, Zesco will be fighting for maximum points to reclaim second position on the Super League table.

Zesco are alive to the fact that a loss to Nkana may end their hopes of finishing second and qualifying for the CAF Confederations Cup. The clash of the titans at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium will also see veteran coaches in George “Chicken” Lwandamina and Beston “Quick Silver” Chambeshi renew their rivalry.

While Chambeshi will look to Lameck Kafwaya and David Kabala for the goals to complete a double over the hosts, Lwandamina will hope that Enock Sakala Junior who has managed four goals in the last four games for Zesco will have his scoring boots on.

Meanwhile, Sensational Zanaco FC’s quest to survive relegation faces another tough test today when they visit Mazabuka for a date with giant killers FC Muza. Both teams are from enjoying victories in the previous matches over Buildcon FC and Nkwazi and today’s fixture is crucial for both teams for contrasting reasons.

Muza will fight for a win to consolidate their stay on second position while, Zanaco need a win or a draw to guarantee their survival with one game to end the league.

Today’s clash presents Muza the chance to avenge the 3-2 defeat suffered last December when they faced the Bankers at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

In the other fixtures scheduled for this weekend, rejuvenated Green Eagles will face defending champions Red Arrows while relegation threatened Lumwana Radiants and Nkwazi will square off in another intriguing fixture.

Green Buffaloes will seek redemption from the 4-1 defeat to Muza when they face Buildcon at Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola while Kabwe Warriors fight to bounce back to winning ways when they host Chambishi at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe. Tomorrow’s Super League action will see Kansanshi Dynamos date relegation threatened Nchanga while champions-elect Power Dynamos will date Prison Leopards at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
