LEADERS MUST DECLARE ASSETS

- By NATION REPORTER

All leaders must declare their assets including President Hakainde Hichilema and his Ministers, National Revolution Party (NRP) president, Cozmo Mumba has said.

Dr. Mumba said it was unfortunate that law enforcement agencies were investigating most Patriotic Front (PF) members for possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and leaving those who had failed to declare their assets.

He wondered which law enforcement agencies were trying to cure by arresting leaders from the previous regime when President Hichilema and his ministers had not declared their assets.

Dr. Mumba said all United Party for National Development (UPND) leaders must declare their assets so that Zambians can know how much wealth they would have acquired whilst in office.

He wondered which law enforcement agencies were trying to cure by arresting leaders from the previous regime when President Hichilema and his ministers had not declared their assets.

He said all ministers and Members of Parliament should declare their assets for the sake of transparency.

Dr. Mumba also said some government officials in the current administration had benefited from the PF government and wondered why law enforcement agencies were not pursuing them.

He added that the proposed sale of Toyota VX luxurious vehicles was a ploy by Government to sell the vehicles to the same people serving in the UPND administration at a giveaway price because no ordinary Zambian could afford them.

He said the investigations should not only be targeted at PF leaders and it was important for all leaders including those from the ruling party to declare their assets.

Dr Mumba said UPND does not want to empower people and had resorted to instructing law enforcement agencies to pursue innocent citizens including those who received donations from well-wishers.
