MWIIMBU EMBARKS ON INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IN MONZE WITH CDF FUNDS
MONZE central Member of Parliament, Jack Mwiimbu, says his constituency has embarked on an ambitious programme to rehabilitate and construct new infrastructure using constituency development fund (CDF).
Mr Mwiimbu says following the increase in CDF from the paltry K1.6 million to k28.3, Monze constituency is constructing a 1×3 classroom block and a police post among other infrastructure.
ZANIS reports that Mr Mwiimbu was speaking when he inspected the construction of the two projects in his constituency, Mr Mwiimbu explained that the free education policy has brought competition for school spaces among learners.
He said his constituency is overwhelmed with the enrolment of pupils in the constituency in almost all the schools.
The Minister added that there is a need to quickly expand on school space to improve on the quality of education in the area.
“My constituency is faced with excess demand for classroom spaces by learners, a thing which has made us use the CDF to construct more classrooms because that is the purpose of it,” he said.
The Minister explained that the 1×3 classroom block under construction at Chiyobola primary school is almost complete to accommodate pupils that are enjoying free education.
He also commended the members of the community for their unwavering support towards infrastructure development in the area.
“This particular fund has enabled us as a constituency to provide quality education to our learners, we thank the President for being ingenious to provide more CDF,” Mwiimbu said.
He appealed to the community to guard the facility jealously because it has been constructed at a huge cost.
And Chiyobola school head teacher Felix Likando explained that the additional classroom block will add to the number of classes to Carter for over 800 pupils at the school.
Mr Likando said the free education policy has brought about the challenges of learning space for pupils.
“This is a blessing in disguise because access to quality learning will be easy, and let me call on pupils who ran away to come back and continue,” he said.
Meanwhile, a contractor working on the project Twambo Hangoma said the works are at over 75 percent and will be completed within a month.
