CORRUPTION FIGHT MEANT TO FIX POLITICAL OPPONENTS - MUNIR
THE fight against corruption under the UPND regime is nothing but a tool to fix political opponents of the ruling party which has so far seen many opposition political party leaders and their members arrested and are being persecuted, Munir Zulu has said.
Mr Zulu, the Lumezi Independent Member of Parliament says the UPND government has failed to prove to the Zambians that the current corruption fight is not aimed at persecuting its opponents as many of the citizens being pursued were those from the opposition.
Commenting on the reinstatement of Ministry of Finance and National Planning directors who were suspended on alleged corruption, Mr Zulu said those that have said that the current corruption fight was not genuine had been vindicated.
“That some directors at the Ministry of Finance who were accused of corruption and suspended have now been reinstated is confirmation that the UPND fight against corruption is nothing but a crusade meant to fix political opponents. We have seen the victimisation, retribution and vengeance that the UPND has embarked on fixing citizens they perceive are their political opponents. The suspension of directors at the Ministry of Finance was meant to get at selected citizens such as the former Auditor General Dr Dick Sichembe,”
Mr Zulu said. He said it was regrettable that Government only wanted to use the corruption fight to prosecute opponents instead of using the crusade to eradicate the vice. Mr Zulu said there was need to change the narrative that the corruption fight was nothing but a tool to exact political retribution against the ruling party’s perceives enemies.
