Civic leaders worried with erratic water supply in Kitwe

-

NDEKE ward Councillor Davies Kasengele has said there is urgent need for Nkana Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC) to replace old pipes in Ndeke Township in order to improve water supply in the ward whose population has been experiencing erratic supply for a long time.

Mr Kasengele also said there was an urgent need to connect Ndeke Presidential South Where NWSC had laid down the pipes, but had not connected the area to the main water grid so that people can access clean water.

Mr Kasengele was speaking on Tuesday when Kitwe Mayor Mpasa Mwaya led Kitwe Civic leaders in a stakeholder’s engagement meeting with NWSC in order to discuss the water challenges being faced in their respective wards.

"As you know your worship, the entire Ndeke ward has been experiencing challenges of water supply and sewer problems, hence there is need to find a lasting solution to these challenges. One of the issues is the urgent need for NWSC to replace all old pipes in Ndeke and replace them with new pipes so as to improve on the smooth flow of water to various parts of Ndeke.

"There is also need to connect Ndeke Presidential South where NWSC has laid down the pipes but have not connected the area to the main water grid so that our people can have access to clean running water as soon as possible,'' Mr Kasenge said.

And Bupe Ward Councillor Francis Kabuseni said he was concerned with reports that some residents in Mukuba Natwange were allegedly stopping a contractor engaged by NWSC from working on the new sewer line.

Mr Kabuseni urged the residents not to be hostile to development, but cooperate with companies and various institutions assigned to carry out developmental projects.

"I have received a report that some residents in MN are stopping a contractor engaged by NWSC from working on the new sewer line. Note that this is a GRZ Sanitation Project which commenced last month in our Ward to connect areas which are not connected to NWSC.

"Stakeholder engagement meetings were held with residents last being in November at MN Market. I am urging all the residents to cooperate with the NWSC projects team and the contractor. Let's also comply with the law and avoid blocking or sabotaging GRZ programs or projects,'' he said.
