GOV’T’S ATTACK AGAINST ECL UNWARRANTED – LUBINDA

…says Imbila ya mumushi tabayasukila (that which does not concern you, do not answer) as he claims the UPND government is guilty of lying to Zambians hence the attack against former President Lungu for telling off liars

- By NATION REPORTER

THAT the UPND government has come out with guns blazing attacking former President Edgar Lungu for preaching against the shameless culture of lying is confirmation that the new dawn administration is guilty of being a regime of lies, for lies and governing by lies, Given Lubinda has said.

Mr Lubinda, the Patriotic Front (PF) vice president says Zambia’s sixth President Edgar Lungu last Sunday preached against the culture of lies and did not mention any name but that it was surprising that the UPND government had decided to descend to nihilistic and uncouth attacks against the former head of State.

Mr Lubinda said had the UPND government been sincere and cared about moral and good governance, they would have joined former President Lungu in condemning the shameless culture of lying which had become endemic under the UPND government.

He said in an interview that a lying political leadership, especially one in government was a dangerous one because it had the potential to destroy systems of governance leading to the breakdown of the rule of law.

“Imbila ya mumushi tabayasukila (that which does not concern you, do not answer)…that is what the Bembas say. President Lungu was at church and preached against the shameless culture of lying. He called for an end to the culture of telling lies. He (former President Lungu) is deeply concerned that it has become a culture to be shameless in the country” Mr Lubinda said.

“Government should have joined former President Lungu in condemning the endemic culture of lying because liars, especially those in government can destroy systems of governance. This is what we are experiencing under the UPND and it is a shame indeed,” he said.

Mr Lubinda said President Hakainde Hichilema and his government should be concerned that governance systems were being destroyed because those in leadership had so well mastered the art of lying that they had lost the sense of shame in cheating citizens that things would be better, cheaper and easier even when they knew what they were saying was nothing but rhetoric.

He said it was shocking that the government could chose to defend lies in a bid to win political favours but warned that Zambians were no longer gullible and were seeing through the deceit and propaganda.

He said propaganda often had an expiry date that soon, the UPND government shall realise that their lies had amounted to a ticket to be kicked out of government.

“Former President Lungu was apt in asking the church to advise and preach against the lying culture. President Lungu wants those who have the propensity to lie with a straight face to be exorcised of their lying habits and such a call should not warrant President Lungu to be attacked. So, President Lungu has been vindicated that even without mentioning names, those who are guilty of the sin of lying have responded with venom. They are willing to continue defending their lies that they would reduce the cost of living for Zambians,” Mr Lubinda said.
