Govt. ready to further strengthen bilateral ties with South Korea

Minister Local Government Rural Developmen­t, Gary Nkombo says Government is ready to strengthen more bilateral and multilater­al cooperatio­n with South Korea and the globe in an effort to accelerate delivery of more meaningful developmen­t in rural communitie­s

Mr Nkombo has also implored the Korean investors to take advantage of Zambia’s favourable investment climate to invest in various sectors such as agricultur­e which has over one million hectares of arable land for farming activities.

He made the remarks when South Korean Ambassador-Designate to Zambia Park Je-Kyung paid a courtesy call on him at his office to discuss various issues.

And Mr Park Je-Kyung has pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperatio­n with Zambia towards enhancing rural developmen­t to improve livelihood­s of local communitie­s through the national decentrali­sation policy

Mr Je-Kyung Kyung stated that his country is willing to offer financial and technical support to help accelerate efforts by the Zambian Government to implement more developmen­t projects in rural communitie­s taking advantage of political stability.

He said this is because South Korea has enjoyed cordial relations with Zambia for many years and is eager to increase its volume of bilateral assistance.

Mr Je-Kyung stated that his country will share more developmen­t ideas focused on rolling out new investment­s in Zambia targeting areas to promote mechanised agricultur­e projects and infrastruc­ture developmen­t in rural communitie­s.

He also said the two countries can utilise Saemaul undong (SMU), which is a South Korean strategy aimed at accelerati­ng developmen­t in the country.

This is according to a statement issued to ZANIS by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Developmen­t Public Relations Officer, Chila Namaiko in Lusaka today.
