Installation of LAN in North-Western province almost complete

- -ZANIS

The project of setting up Local Area Network (LAN) which started last year in November in the nine town Councils of NorthWestern Province is almost complete.

Principal Information Communication Technology (ICT) Officer under Smart Zambia in North-Western Province Matthew Mufunte told ZANIS in an exclusive interview that out of the nine town Councils that were earmarked for the installation of LAN eight districts have already been connected and only one is remaining.

Mr Mufunte said the contractor Venture Communications has already moved into Kalumbila town Council to finish up the works at the last site.

"We have been running a project in the province to install Local Area Network (LAN) in government and town Councils offices. The project has been running smoothly so far and the contractor has managed to finish eight sites so far out of the nine sites that they were given.Just today the contractor has just moved in at Kalumbila town Council site and that is the last site to be done. So any day I will be traveling to Kalumbila to see how the works are progressing," he said.

Mr Mufunte said the project has a duration of sixteen weeks adding that the contractor is within the scheduled time frame.

He said the government has directed that by 2030 Zambia should have attained what is called a digital economy.

Mr Mufunte said once this vision is actualized all procurement processes in town Councils will be done online.

The named sites in North-Western Province where LAN is expected to be installed are Ikelengi, Mwinilunga, Kasempa, Mufumbwe, Kabompo Zambezi, Mushindamo, Chavuma districts and Kalumbila whose works are underway.

Mr Mufunte said the main objective of the program is to make the government system as well as public service delivery as efficient as possible.
