RDA, Council engineers advised not work in insolation
North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Col. Grandson Katambi (Rtd) has advised engineers both from the Road Development Agency (RDA) and the Councils to work together and improve the road infrastructure in communities.
Col. Katambi expressed worry on the bad state of most roads in compounds when the Road Development Agency and Councils have machinery laying idle at their premises.
He said this during the technical capacity building training workshop on roads and bridges maintenance for both RDA and Council engineers held in Solwezi.
The Permanent Secretary further said lack of cooperation between the local authority and the RDA has led to most roads in the province to remain in a deplorable state.
“You guys are highly trained, if you were a cadre in the previous government stop and if you are a cadre in the UPND stop exercising that cadarism and let us work for the people of North-Western Province. That is why I am saying you are here to put your heads together and I hope these heads will be together," he said.
Col. Katambi observed that there is no harmonization of road maintenance between the RDA and the Councils in the region.
He said roads stay for a long time without periodic maintenance to the frustration of the people when they see graders packed at RDA and the council offices.
Col. Katambi said recognition of the feeder and urban road maintenance as a delegated function from RDA to the local authorities is not working hence most township roads remain unattended to.
He requested the both the council and the RDA to stop working in Isolation and establish a good working relationship for the benefit of the people -
