PAC ELATED WITH IMPROVED CORRUPTION PERCEPTION INDEX
THE Parliamentary Accounts Committee has observed that Zambia's improved Corruption Index ranking is a reflection of the political will from the government to fight corruption
According to the Transparency International Zambia, TIZ corruption index, the country's corruption index ranking has improved from 33 percent in 2022 to 37 percent in 2023 out of 100 countries.
Parliamentary Accounts Committee Chairperson Warren Mwambazi says the latest index is a clear indication that the fight against corruption is on the right path under the current government.
Mr Mwambazi says from PAC's point of view this clearly shows political will from the President Hakainde Hichilema and his government.
And Mr Mwambazi says PAC as an oversight body of Parliament will continue to ensure accountability in the utilization the country's resources.
But Community Action Against Corruption says the latest Zambia‘s Corruption Perception Index ranking is a not true reflection of what it is on the ground when it comes to levels of corruption.
According Transparency International Zambia, Zambia‘s corruption perception index ranking has improved from 33 recorded in 2022 to 37 out of the 100 countries. Community Action Against Corruption Executive Director Brighton Tembo says the raised factors in the report do not to match with reality.
He says the corruption levels are still high in the country therefore the report is misleading
Mr Tembo has since challenged Transparency International Zambia to reconcile, the 2022, CPI report and 2023 CPI, report, by clearly starting the factors that, have cause the sharp difference in the two reports.
