Flying doctors conduct gynaecological, obstetrical in Mbala
THE Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) has carried out 10 gynaecological and obstetrical operations during its ongoing Mbala outreach which has seen the service attending to more than 1, 000 patient in three areas, including Tulemane, Kaka and Kawimbe Rural Health centres.
Obstetrical and Gynaecological specialists Boniface Chisenga said the ZFDS has carried out 10 operations, out of which, three were major operations, two were minor and five were caesarian sections.
Dr Chisenga said the ZFDS was firmly on course and will meet its target by the time it will conclude its outreach.
And Mbala outreach team leader Samuel Sianga has said the ZFDS was into top gear with six women from Kela area of Mbala being referred to the district hospital with suspected surgical and gynaecological complications where a gynecologist who is part of the team is stationed to handle surgical and gynaecology problems during the outreach.
The six women were referred to Mbala District Hospital during the outreach programme at Kaka Rural Health Centre where more than 500 turned up to be treated for various health challenges.
Apart from six women being referred to the hospital for gynaecology and surgical problems the outreach team attended to 461 patients, out of which 202 were general screening, 172 were sight cases and 87 were dental cases.
Dr Sianga said the six women who were referred to Mbala District Hospital had surgical complications, among them a Vesical-Rectal Fistula, abreast mass to establish whether they had a breast mass or not.
Dr Sianga said the other one had keloid of the back while the other three had gynaecological problems which mostly included reported infertility.
And the ZFDS has so far attended to more than 1, 000 in the three heath health posts starting from Tulemane, Kaka and Kawimbe Rural Health centers.
