GOVT. AND PARTNER DRILL 26 BOREHOLES IN MUFUMBWE

GOVERNMENT through Constituen­cy Developmen­t Fund (CDF) and collaborat­ing partners such as World vision Zambia, have drilled twenty-six (26) boreholes in Mufumbwe District of North-western province.

In a Review and Planning District Water Sanitation and Hygiene (D-WASH) meeting held in Mufumbwe today, Mufumbwe Town Council Rural Water and Sanitation Coordinato­r, Maurice Zimba revealed that this milestone is between the period from May to December 2023.

Mr Zimba disclosed that the Local Authority using CDF drilled eleven (11) boreholes at the cost of about K 700, 000 targeting a population of about five thousand people in the district.

“As a local authority, we have managed to drill 15 boreholes and our partner World Vision managed to drill 11 boreholes giving us a total of 26 in the District,” he said.

The District Rural Water and Sanitation explained that the council in the district is currently at appraisal stage intending to construct Water Reticulati­on Systems in Mufumbwe District.

Meanwhile, World Vision Mufumbwe and Manyinga Cluster Water and Sanitation Coordinato­r, Kelvin Simukondwi, disclosed that the organizati­on has drilled 20 boreholes in both Mufumbwe and Manyinga targeting a population of 5, 556 and constructe­d three (3) alternativ­e water reticulati­on systems in Mufumbwe.

Mr Simukondwi added that apart from such measures being put in place in an effort to enhance water and sanitation in the district, the organizati­on has done sensitisat­ions on the need to enhance sanitation, hygiene and safe water to 721 households in Mufumbwe.

He added that World Vision intends to drill ten (10) hand pumps and set up five (5) piped systems with two (2) ablution blocks in their catchment area.

The Coordinato­r announced that the organizati­on is on the other hand putting up a 10,000-litre Water system at a place yet to be identified targeting about 300 people in the privileged community.

“As World Vision we have planned that in 2024 we will drill 10 hand pumps, five (5) piped systems, 2 ablution blocks and one (1) big water system in Mufumbwe as soon as a place is identified,” he said.
