KALABA APPEALS TO MNANGAGWA TO HELP KAMBWILI

-

“President Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe is a member of SADC and within the framework of the body, Mr Kambwili, who is now stranded in that country could be helped and allowed to proceed to South Africa for his medical attention.

We are appealing to President Mnangagwa to come to the aid of Mr Kambwili because should he (Kambwili) return to Zambia, he will have no chance of going to hospital but will be rearrested and taken to prison.

The Zambian government is no longer interested in Mr Kambwili’s health as it has already branded him an escapee and fugitive and has since launched a manhunt,” Mr Kalaba said.

Mr Kalaba said President Mnangagwa should consider the situation Mr Kambwili was in and his health status to facilitate for the Zambian politician who is a senior member of the Patriotic Front (PF) proceed to South Africa using the SADC framework.

He has accused President Hakainde Hichilema of having broken the promise and assurance to Mr Kambwili that he was going to be evacuated to South Africa for specialised treatment.

“President Hichilema and the government know that Mr Kambwili is not well but allowed him to continue deteriorating so that they could take advantage of his illness to gain some political mileage…really at the expense of his life.

Even when Mr Kambwili pleaded with President Hichilema to be evacuated after his flight was cancelled for unknown reasons, nobody was ready to listen to his plea.

At that point, Mr Kambeili had no option but to take the risk of travelling to South Africa by road only to have his passport confiscated,” Mr Kalaba said.

Mr Kalaba accused President Hichilema of being vengeful and vindictive and that the head of State was allegedly punishing Mr Kambwili for the political differences they have had.

“When a citizen is going through such difficult and stressing health challenges, the President (Hichilema) should remove hatred, bitterness and vindictiveness and move to help citizens in dire need.

The government has exhibited an inhuman attitude towards Mr Kambwili. We cannot even trust the Zambian High Commission in Zimbabwe that they can help Mr Kambwili. In fact, the High Commission may be used to get Mr Kambwili back home so that he could be thrown back into prison,” Mr Kalaba said.
