- By GIDEON NYENDWA

SANLAM Life Insurance Zambia has joined the fight against cholera as they donated K100, 000 to the Ministry of Health in support of the tireless efforts to combat the outbreak of the disease of which 50 percent of the money was in form of goods.

Speaking during the handover at the Ministry of Health, Sanlam Life Insurance Zambia board chairperson, Margaret Mudenda said their commitment to social responsibility goes beyond their core business, it extends to being active participants in times of crisis and standing side by side with the government and other stakeholders who have been managing the situation.

Ms. Mudenda said the donation includes essential items that they hope would contribute to the ongoing efforts to care for the babies in paramedics ward of the cholera centre to assist the heath workers to manage the various medical waste being generated and help maintain hygiene, among which were diapers, blankets, linen sets, 100 littter bins, handwashing buckets, 50kg bags of therapeutic feeds.

“We acknowledge the remarkable work that the Ministry of Health was doing in managing the outbreak and hope their contribution would add to the great collective efforts.

And Minister of Health Silvia Masebo thanked Sanlam Life Insurance Zambia for their support as it would go a long way to help reduce the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, Ms. Masebo announced that in the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 208 cases and three deaths of which two deaths were from the community and one from the health facility.

She also said the Ministry of Health has withdrawn 16, 000 doses of vaccines from the areas were the refusal were high and took them to other needy hot spot areas.
