LUMEZI DISTRICT RECEIVES CHLORINE AND CLEANING MATERIALS FROM WORLD VISION

-

World Vision Zambia has donated chlorine and cleaning materials worth K23,000 to help in containing the outbreak of cholera in Lumezi District of Eastern Province.

World Vision Eastern Regional Manager, Nasser Shomo, says the donation will not only supplement government efforts in averting the cholera outbreak, but it will also boost support by other stakeholders towards preventing loss of lives due to the epidemic.

Mr Shomo said this during the handover of a consignment of 18 x 10 kg granular chlorine and cleaning materials to the district.

Mr Shomo noted that it is important for all stakeholders to work with government to fight the cholera outbreak and prevent the loss of lives.

“Part of World Vision’s mandate is to ensure that children are protected from diseases and are able to go to school and we have realised how important this is going to be for us to work together with government,” he said.

He said the donation will be delivered to health facilities, schools and high-risk zones for the spread of cholera in the district.

Meanwhile, District Education Board Secretary, Misozi Mwenya, said all 131 schools have been inspected and assessed to re-open for term one on February, 12, 2024.

She said her office also involved parents and teachers in the cleaning of schools during the time that schools have been closed.

“As far as Lumezi District is concerned, we are very much ready to open schools for term one because everything is in place and we are working very close with the parents and the teachers,” she said.
