Nkandu doles out sports kits to South youths
IN a quest to promote sports development in Zimba, Livingstone, Kazungula and Kalomo, Sports Youth and Arts Minister Elvis Nkandu has continued to empower teams with sports kits consisting of balls and jerseys.
Following the official launch of the National Youth Empowerment Scheme in Kazungula and Livingstone, Nkandu visit Zimba to roll out the empowerment programme which saw about 200 youth beneficiaries receive grants and 20 sports kits handed over to community sports teams.
Addressing the youth during the handing over ceremony of empowerment at Kabanga Christian Secondary School in Mapatizya, Nkandu said Government through the ministry targets to empower about 2, 000 youths under the national youth scheme, 200 sports community teams with sports kits and 120 motorbikes to youth beneficiaries in the 10 districts under the first phase of the programme in Southern Province.
"The national youth empowerment scheme and promotion of community sports programmes are among the many programmes developed and being implemented by the government to address the diverse needs of our young people in the country. regardless of their level of vulnerability," Nkandu said.
"The government through our ministry has embarked on a mission to ensure that youths in rural parts are given special consideration that will see them benefit from the many programmes being offered," he said.
Meanwhile, Southern Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa implored the youth beneficiaries to utilise the grants and other empowerment opportunities given to them prudently.
