Zambia is experiencing economic crisis, says Kunda

- By NATION REPORTER

ZAMBIA is experiencing economic crisis and this can only be resolved once the government admits the situation as various experts will bring solutions to the table, Zambia Wake Up Party president Howard Kunda has said.

And Mr Kunda has observed that the dry spells being experienced in the country would have a negative effect on food security.

Mr Kunda said in an interview that while in opposition, the UPND promised Zambians heaven on earth which they had failed to deliver.

He said that things had gone from bad to worse.

According to Mr Kunda, President Hakainde Hichilema should apologise to Zambians for what he described as fake promises.

"Mr Hichilema and the UPND should apologise to the people who voted for them after they promised them a lot of things that have not been fulfilled.

The voters were promised heaven on earth but what we are seeing is contrary to what was promised, instead what we are hearing is blaming the previous government in everything.

"The new dawn government should be held accountable for the economic crisis the country is going through because that is not how they found it when they came into power," he said.

Mr Kunda said the cost of living for an ordinary Zambian had become unaffordable, a situation which can lead to increased crime rates.

He alleged that the economic mess the new dawn administration had put the country in never occurred in the previous government.

Mr Kunda regretted that the kwacha had hit K27 against the dollar when Mr Hichilema was busy criticising the previous government when the dollar was at K17 in 2020.

Meanwhile, Mr Kunda expressed worry over the continued dry spells in some parts of the country.

He said that if the situation continued, the country's good security would be affected.

Mr Kunda was worried how much would be the price of mealie meal when it was already unaffordable for some people.
