High Flying Nkwazi seek to fly higher

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

HIGH Flying Nkwazi FC coach Dennis Makinka says it is possible for the Zanbia Police-sponsored Super League outfit to finish among the top two teams in the FAZ Super League and qualify for the CAF inter-club championship.

Makinka said finishing among the top two teams would be a bonus because their main objective is to finish in the top six bracket.

Nkwazi are seventh on the FAZ Super League table with 30 points, nine points behind the league leaders Zesco United who are on 39 points.

As the league is set to resume this weekend after a one-month -long break, Nkwazi will face Green Buffaloes in what promises to be an intriguing fixture.

Makinka said Nkwazi is ready for the service derby scheduled for Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.

"We have been preparing and I hope and trust that this will be the beginning of new things to come. I foresee good results. From how the boys have been preparing in training we have seen their commitment and it is overwhelming. We are ready for Green Buffaloes this weekend," Makinka said.

He said the break which came after three consecutive losses gave Nkwazi enough time to recover and reenergise for the last round of the Super League.

"After the coach left then we had that break and it gave us enough time to psyche the players and make them understand that things like the head coach, Osward Mutapa, leaving do happen.

Next time we will have someone else leaving so when that happens you have to switch and move on because the club will always be there so the break gave us enough time to prepare physically and mentally and to work on the few mistakes that we were making in the last three games.

"Our target was set when the league started, our aim is to finish in the top six which is very possible if we finish higher than that then it will be a bonus but our target is to finish in the top six and for us to achieve our target meaning in the last games we need to at least pick eight or 10 wins," Makinka said.
