FATHER FRANK BWALYA ‘CLEANSES’ THE UPND

- MIKE CHUNGU.

Dear Editor,

HE main news of February 15, 2024 was the commissioning of the Anderson Kambera Mazoka House, which is now the new UPND national headquarters and Frank Bwalya joining the ruling UPND (Prime TV Main News, February 15, 2024).

Anderson Kambera Mazoka, like Michael Chilufya Sata of the PF, is the patriarch of the UPND. He is a highly revered father figure and who has finally been immortalised by the party’s new national office building.

I will leave details on this for later reflection, but focus for now on Frank Bwalya’s move to UPND.

The last picture that Frank Bwalya shared with his FB followers was about

Thim kneeling in pew. He was deep in contemplation about his next move. With this move to the UPND, should we assume that God guided him to make what we may consider a very unpopular and unexpected step?

As we human beings we look at appearance but it is only God who looks at the heart. We do not know what lies at the heart of Frank Bwalya and therefore the need to guard against harsh judgement about his decision to join the UPND.

From the outside appearance, his move looks opportunistic and self-seeking. Yet from his inner conversations with God, it may be the right thing to do.

There are many leadership lessons here. Is this about breaking cultural and political

barriers?

My concern however is about his leadership trajectory and the impact or influence as a role model on the potential youth leaders. Frank Bwalya is gifted. He has a lot of compassion for the poor, courage to confront situations and decisiveness. He however seems to grapple with submission and team work. If he does not work on this, his leadership potential may never move into maturing phase.
