KANYAMA MP LAUDS GOV’T FOR HALTING CHOLERA SPREAD

- By LUCY PHIRI

KANYAMA Member of Parliament, Monty Chinkuli has applauded government for the measures taken to eradicate the cholera pandemic in the country.

Mr. Chinkuli said his constituency is grateful and applauds President Hakainde Hichilema, Minister of heath, Sylvia Masebo, Minister of Local government and housing, Garry Nkombo, the Disaster Management Unit (DMMU) and ministry of Water and Sanitation for the job well-done in making sure that Kanyama has a clean and safe environment.

He said he was happy because being a cholera hotspot, people of Kanyama had access to clean and safe water.

Mr. Chinkuli stated that health workers who are working at the cholera centres should continue to work hard and those who were recently deployed by the President.

“Now that schools are open and our children are in the hands of the school management, we ask the teachers to mentor and lead them to stay safe as some of them are coming from cholera centres,’’ he said.

Mr. Chinkuli further stated that he had a plan of going round to different schools in Lusaka to distribute chlorine but the Africa center for diseases control and prevention (Africa CDC) came in and took responsibility.

“I wanted to go round and give chlorine, but Africa CDC wanted to do the same and told me they will do it, am glad that the government is doing great and the measurements they have put in to eradicate cholera,’’ he said.

Mr. Chinkuli has therefore urged all teachers in schools to work hard and help in combating the pandemic because all the trust left in them and parents are depending on them.
