UKA will not accept rigged 2026 elections - Silavwe

-

The Alliance for opposition parties is looking forward to a free and fair transparent 2026 which will not be rigged by the UPND, otherwise “we shall not accept the outcome”, Alliance member Jackson Silavwe has said.

The Golden Party of Zambia president said the onus was on the ruling UPND to ensure that the 2026 elections outcome would be accepted by everyone rather than engaging in illegalities that can spike chaos in the country.

He said the alliance had put in place a mechanism to counter any attempts by the ruling party to manipulate the 2026 polls.

Mr Silavwe said the alliance would be on firm ground to see to it that no amount of corrupt activities would be undertaken in the polls.

Meanwhile, Mr. Silavwe said Zambia was not ready for the electronic voting system and more consultations with stakeholders were needed.

He said the Electoral Commission of Zambia cannot introduce a system without engaging relevant stakeholders who were the political parties.

He said before implementing the system, the stakeholders needed to appreciate how it operates and agree whether it can be implemented in the 2026 general elections or not.

Mr Silavwe however defended former President Edgar Lungu that at no time did he mention that he would abolish the free education when given another chance to govern the country but would rather revisit the policy to provide quality education in the country.

“The former President Edgar Lungu was very categorical, he never said he will abolish free education but he said we will improve quality education and also work on the teacher-pupil ratio. The media need to be truthful and avoid dividing the country,” Mr. Silavwe said.
