UKA members strategise to strengthen alliance

- By NATION REPORTER

THE United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) leaders yesterday met to plan on the need to strengthen the alliance.

In a joint statement, Golden Party President Jackson Silavwe and National Democratic Congress President Saboi Imboela said the alliance was expected to begin meetings and consultations with democratic stakeholders such as civil society, the Church and trade unions.

They said the alliance also considered activities such as the setting up of the alliance functional secretariat and technical committees with members drawn from political parties.

In a separate interview, New Congress Party president Peter Chanda said the alliance had sent shivers in the ruling UPND.

Mr. Chanda said former President Edgar Lungu had proved to be a formidable force in the country’s politics.

Mr. Chanda said Zambians had assessed President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership in the last two years and they knew his flaws and were able to compare him to former President Lungu.

“We have observed that UKA has sent shivers in the UPND government. Former President Edgar Lungu has proved to be a formidable force in Zambia’s politics who President Hichilema can’t stand,” Mr. Chanda said.

And Mr. Chanda said the revelation by self-proclaimed prophet Seer 1 that the 2021 elections were allegedly rigged showed that there was no credibility that President Hichilema was legitimately elected.

“The revelation by Seer 1, one of the UPND supporters that the 2021 elections were rigged shows that there is no credibility to talk about President Hichilema being legitimately elected, the elections were a fraud and the PF did not lose, infact the clear Parallel Voter Tabulation showed that PF was winning by 54 percent,” he said.
