SAMPA’S RECKLESSNESS

- PURSUING JUSTICE AND EQUITY WITH INTERGRITY

MILES Sampa is likely to do tremendous damage to the Patriotic Front if he is not stopped

It is quite obvious that he has embarked on an orgy of destruction since the purported coup he staged last October 24 to seize the PF presidency, with help from the government machinery.

In his latest adventure, Mr Sampa has ordered the suspension of 15 councillors at the Mufulira Municipal Council.

Thankfully, PF Secretary-General Raphael Nakacinda has told the 15 councillors to ignore their so-called suspension as it was illegal.

The suspension of the 15 councillors, if it was to hold, would clearly disrupt the functions of the council in that the council would not be able to form a quorum to operate.

The biggest losers in all this would be the innocent citizens who voted for these councillors to represent them in the council to deliver development in the district.

The 15 were suspended on very flimsy grounds – that they supported an Independent candidate in a recent by-election.

Mr Nakacinda said the 15 councillors Mr Sampa is purported to have suspended shall continue to perform their civic duties and that no one shall interfere because they were voted to serve the people in their respective wards.

He noted that Mr Sampa is not a PF member that he was expelled and has never challenged the expulsion.

“So, he is only masquerading and impersonating which is a criminal offence. But we know and we are aware that his impunity is being supported by the State.

“However, we urge our 15 councillors in Mufulira purportedly suspended by Mr Sampa to ignore the letter. Let them continue discharging their civic duties because it is not Sampa who elected them,” Mr Nakacinda said.

Mr Nakacinda pointed out that the 15 had not committed anything wrong for campaigning for an independent candidate and that Mr Sampa’s time shall soon come for him to account.

According to Mr Nakacinda, the 15 councillors were suspended by Mr Sampa’s surrogate, a Mr Daniel Chibale, who claims to be the PF chairman for Mufulira.

But it appears that Mr Chibale does not command respect and support from the councillors, more like what is happening in the National Assembly where Mr Sampa and his cohorts do not enjoy any support from the PF MPs.

They draw their support from the government which engineered Mr Sampa’s election as PF president in on October 24 last year at what he claimed was a retreat for members when in actual fact it was an illegal convention which ultimately had him elected – without the involvement of the PF secretariat and other top officials.

The venue, Mulungushi International Conference Centre was provided with round the clock security by the Zambia Police and within a matter of days, had the list of PF office holders altered.

But this was before the whole scam was laid bare in which one of the casualties was the Registrar of Societies who was removed as her presence was “inimical” to the interests of the new dawn administration – UPND.

But for how long would Mr Sampa’s reckless conduct be allowed to continue?
