Govt. disburses chemical pesticide control for Army Worms in Mkushi

GOVERNMENT has disbursed quantities of chemical pesticide in response to Fall Army Worm pest attacks on maize crops in Mkushi District.

Mkushi’s Acting District Agricultur­al Coordinati­ng Officer(DACO), dustrial Area, Patrick Opposite Mutale confirmed A.P.G this developmen­t Milling, to Lusaka, Zambia, Email: info@uci.co.zm ZANIS, saying that his office has received 500 liters of Emalectine LE & BOOSTER PUMPS Benzoic chemical pesticide for spraying against these pests.

He said that although his office is making frantic efforts in compiling the affected hectares, the dry weather pattern as well as high temperatur­es cause the increased rate of multiplyin­g and invasion by these pests.

He cited Lweo Agricultur­al Block as having the highest number of affected farmer households from amongst the 7 agricultur­al blocks, adding that Mubalashi block has the least number of affected farmers.

In the early part of this year, more than 8,000 farmer households were affected by black beetle pest attacks on soya beans which had ravaged more than 5,000 hectares before the situation was mitigated by disburseme­nt of chemical spray.
