12YEAR OLD LUWINGU GIRL INFECTED WITH SYPHILIS AFTER DEFILEMENT

ATWELVE-YEAR old girl of Luwingu District of Northern Province has contracted a Sexually Transmitte­d Disease (STD), after she was defiled by a 30year old man of Senior Chief Shimumbi.

Luwingu Subordinat­e Court heard this developmen­t when a medical doctor from the district hospital testified in a defilement case before Resident Magistrate, Maybin Kapaya.

Doctor Lishika Bananga testified in a matter in which Finis Katongo 30, was charged with defilement contrary to section 138 (1) of the penal code as read with Act number 15 of 2005 and Act number 2 of 2011 of the laws of Zambia.

ZANIS reports that Dr Bananga told Resident Magistrate Kapaya that a 12year old girl who was brought before him on allegation of having been defiled by Katongo had contracted syphilis, a sexually transmitte­d disease.

“This is after I conducted a physical examinatio­n and the laboratory test revealed that the girl had contracted a sexually transmitte­d disease called syphilis,” he explained.

Dr Bananga said after examining the girl, it was discovered that she had contracted syphilis after being defiled by Katongo on 12th February, 2024.

He added that after discoverin­g an STD in the girl, he demanded that the accused should go for similar medical examinatio­n tests.

“It was at this point that Katongo was also diagnosed with syphilis, which he infected the girl under the age of 16 after having unprotecte­d sex with her,” he narrated.

Dr Bananga told the resident magistrate that he was a highly qualified doctor from Lubumbashi University adding that he has been practicing as a medical doctor for 21 years.

The matter has been adjourned to 28th February, 2024 for continuati­on of trial while the accused remains in prison.
