Kalulushi Council raid Shebeens, confiscate assorted beers
A COMBINED team of Kalulushi Municipal Council (KMC) and State Police over the weekend swung into action and confiscated assorted bottled beer valued at more than K1, 000 from various Shebeens in the district.
Additionally, approximately 95 litres of locally brewed beer commonly known as Kachasu was also destroyed.
Kalulushi Municipal Council (KMC) Public Relations Officer Tamara Jacob said the local authority working together with the Local authority and the State Police intensified inspections of shebeens operating in the district which resulted into confiscating of assorted bottled beer valued at more than K1, 000 which was appropriately disposed of under the clearance of the Magistrate Court.
"Additionally, approximately 95 litres of locally brewed beer commonly known as kachasu has been destroyed.
This enforcement was conducted in full compliance with the provisions outlined in the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011" Ms Jacobs said.
Ms Jacob said, during the exercise various areas including; Chibote, Magum, North Kalengwa, JVC, Luapula ward and Chibuluma were inspected.
"Local Authority wishes to sound a strong warning to shebeen operators to stop the vice of trading from residential areas and other undesignated trading areas.
"Failure to which, the Council will not hesitate to take appropriate measures to address any violations and bring offenders to justice. Members of the public are encouraged to report to the Local Authority any suspected shebeen operations in the community" she said.
