SPEAKER MUTTI ORDERS MWIIMBU TO ISSUE MINISTERIAL STATEMENT ON ECL

- By NATION REPORTER

NELLY MUTTI, Speaker of the National Assembly has directed Jack Mwiimbu, the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security to state the Government's position on sentiments made by former President Edgar Lungu that the country could hold elections before the five-year mandate of the UPND is over.

Ms Mutti said the matter bordered on national security and therefore Mr Mwiimbu should state in a ministerial statement on Tuesday next week how the government

took the statement by Mr Lungu.

She said this to a matter of urgent public importance raised by Mr Kausautu Michelo,

UPND Bweengwa MP who said the former head of State had made an alarming statement when he went to Kabwata Police Station to visit Mr Raphael Nakacinda, the PF secretary general who had been detained at that police station.

“The former President issued an alarming statement which can put the country into fire and if Lungu cannot be put where he is supposed to be, this country will have problems. He said HH (Hakainde Hichilema) can give up power before his time.”

“He has immunity but I believe he can still be arrested because he can start shooting people claiming he has immunity. He still has influence on his members. I want to know the position of the government on Mr Lungu. He is issuing careless and criminal statements,” Mr Michelo said.

And Mr Ronald Chitotela, the PF Pambashe MP questioned why the government had disposed of Mopani Mine, which was a state asset without the approval of Parliament in line with Article 210.

But Ms Mutti asked Mr Chitotela to put in a question to the Minister of Finance and National Planning as the matter was not urgent.
