PARLEY HAS JOKERS, SAYS NKANA MP

- By NATION REPORTER

NKANA Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu says his desire to go back to Parliament in 2026 is slowly fading because he would never want to be part of a bunch of jokers and incompetent people.

Mr Mpundu, an Independent, said way back he thought Parliament was a house of honour which ignited his dream of being MP but what he found breaks his heart.

He said the biggest issue was leadership.

The lawmaker said unfortunately Parliament deposited power in one person who would decide at will without being questioned.

Mr Mpundu said the current Speaker of National Assembly, Ms Nelly Mutti uses emotions to make decisions and she does it without proper consultation.

He also said one of the best Speakers that parliament has currently was the Deputy Speaker, Ms Malungo Chisangano.

“When Parliament is being presided over by her it is such a beautiful place to be because she reprimands you in a very motherly tone, we have nothing against the main Speaker today but all she must do is to stop using emotions, she is an emotionally-charged Speaker,” he said.

Mr Mpundu said because the Speaker makes emotional decisions, Parliament has been turned into a circus.

He recalled how Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu was suspended for wearing a traditional outfit based on a rule she had set that no one was allowed to wear N’cwala outfit apart from the misisi for the Lozi people.

Mr Mpundu said the suspension of Mr Zulu for seven days was unfair.

He said according to Standing Orders, MPs were allowed to wear any traditional outfit that was decent and what Mr Zulu wore was decent.

Mr Mpundu also said there was a tendency by presiding officers to demand for evidence whenever an issue was brought in the house which is making them run away from responsibilities.
