CENTRAL PROVINCE STILL RECORDING COVID-19 AND CHOLERA CASES

- ZANIS

Central Province Health Director, Elijah Mutoloki has disclosed that the region is still grappling with the challenge of COVID- 19 and cholera.

Dr Mutoloki says Chisamba Boarding Secondary School in Chisamba District cumulatively last week recorded 59 new cases of the COVID- 19, while as of Wednesday Kapiri Technical Secondary School in Kapiri Mposhi had 50 active cases.

Speaking when the United Party for National Development (UPND) Health Committee called on him at his office, Dr Mutoloki observed that the people that are currently positive of the COVID 19 are stable unlike the way it was in the past.

“When we heard of the resurgence of the COVID- 19, we did our very best and even tested more and stationed health personnel at the learning facilities,” Dr Mutoloki said.

Meanwhile, Dr Mutoloki said there were currently 12 active cases of cholera but the patients were stable while figures have drastically declined.

Dr Mutoloki told the visiting delegation that the province is doing well in terms of medicines and that the drug kits have been distributed everywhere.

He said the region has all the essential drugs and his team does not intend to give prescriptions to the patients in order to enhance access to quality health care.

“Essential drugs we have, but others we have to buy. We don’t intend to give prescriptions but there are people that are just overzealous. We were even surprised in Kapiri Mposhi that a parent was given a prescription to buy the COVID- 19 drug,” he said.

He disclosed that the department has also received the grants adding that it has since started running the radio programmes to improve interactions with the people on various public health issues.

Meanwhile, UPND Health Committee National Chairperson, Bob Sakahilu said the cooperation of the sector stakeholders was paying off hence the less complicated cases of the COVID- 19.

Dr Sakahilu has urged for hard work to achieve the target of a productive and healthy nation by 2030.
