MORE DEMAND DPP RESIGNATION

- By NATION REPORTER

THE New Congress Party (NCP) has demanded that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri must resign on moral grounds for incompetence and unprofessional conduct.

Party president Peter Chanda said Zambians were expecting DPP Phiri to be neutral and professional but that his conduct aligning himself with the governing party has exposed as a man who had joined the band wagon of people perpetrating injustices in the country.

Mr Chanda said Mr Phiri’s behaviour on the case of expelled Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa showed that he was incompetent and unprofessional, and should therefore vacate the office of DPP because he had brought dishonor and disrepute to the office.

He said Inspector General of Police, Graphael Musamba was still roaming in the streets because DPP Phiri had objecte d that he be privately prosecuted by Fred M’membe, the Socialist Party president.

The opposition leader said Mr Phiri was not supposed to be shield or protecting any person when found in conflict with the law but that the DPP had exhibited a propensity to frustrate those who were seeking justice against those in the corridors of power.

“Mr Gilbert Phiri, the DPP has lost credibility and his office has become unattainable. He has brought dishonor and disrepute to the office by refusing to have Mr Sampa prosecuted for fogery and impersonation. He also refused to give consent to have Graphael Musamba, the Inspector General of Police to be prosecuted by Dr Fred M’membe,” Mr Chanda said.

He said anyone found wanting, the law should always be applied irrespective of their status in society. Mr Chanda was commenting on a matter were the DPP refused that Mr Sampa should privately be prosecuted for forgery and impersonation now that it has been revealed that Mr Sampa’s 24 October 2023 assembly that led to the illegal changing of the original office bearers of the Patriotic Front (PF) was in fact a fraud and a criminal act. Victor Kapungwe, commonly known as Mr Ground, one of Sampa’s notorious disciples has broken the ranks and laid bare the State-sponsored illegalities which took place at the Mulungushi Conference Center from which Mr Sampa was purportedly elected president of the PF.

Mr Chanda said the DPP should have allowed the court process to be done instead of protecting Mr Sampa which shows that there is segregation in the application of the law.

He said Zambians will start losing confidence in the office of the DPP if such acts will continue.
