TIZ ACCUSED OF DEPICTING WRONG INSIGHT ON ZAMBIA’S CORRUPTION

- By NATION REPORTER

THE Financial Intelligent Centre Report (FIC) has exposed the ‘cooked-up’ Corruption Perception Index (CPI) produced by the Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) in the ways it depicted a reduction in corruption in 2023.

This allegation has been made by the Community Action Against Corruption (CAAC) Chief Executive Officer, Brighton Tembo.

Mr Tembo said the FIC report for the last quarter of 2023 has vindicated Zambians who doubted the TIZ’s CPI report for the same period.

He noted that it is impossible for a country which can record suspicious financial transactions to the tune of USD$2.8 billion in three months as indicated by the latest FIC report to register an improvement in its corruption standing.

“We now ask where TIZ get its input for their report which they projected in their CPI,” he said.

Mr Tembo recalled that the TIZ report indicated that Zambia has performed better in corruption fight for first time in 10 years.

He, however, questioned the validity the report based on factors obtaining on the ground which did not match the projection of the CPI report.

Mr Tembo demanded that TIZ should reconcile their report with that of FIC which has indicated a contrary picture about corrupt financial activities in the country.

He said CAAC has always stated that the CPI released by the TIZ annually was not a reliable too in corruption fight.

He said “the report does not depict reality and it also lacks validity of a scientific survey.”

Mr Tembo was of the view that the FIC report was reliable because it depicts actual corrupt activities in the country not perceptions.
