ANIMAL FARM RULE HARDENS IN ZAMBIA

- Dear Editor,

These days I often go to bed full of tomorrow’s worries because of what I see as deteriorating levels of rule of law in my Zambia. To start with, no one can deny today that since the advent of the UPND regime, NO opposition political party has been allowed to hold a political rally because of the ruling party’s unknown fears.

And at the rate our Police are playing their game of arresting opposition leaders on flimsy charges, there appears to be no tomorrow for many of us. I will be least shocked if we soon reprobate into a Police State where fear is being preached to the citizens with unbelievable impunity. Only this Tuesday our Home Affairs Minister Jacob Jack Mwiimbu was on hand to forewarn opposition political leaders of police action if they dared the socalled New Dawn administration.

So is the level our governance has plunged while our democracy is equally producing dying bubbles under our Kariba Dam? Is this the rectification Zambians voted for in 2021? I don’t think so as this certainly does not add up. Reminds me of that wonderful “Animal Farm” novel in which leaders led a pig named Napoleon declared only themselves should take their daily milk because they were the brain workers.

The rest of the animals were brainwashed after they were assured that while all animals are equal, other animals like them were more equal than the rest. This sadly is what we are seeing in Zambia because citizens with deflection political views are seen and treated as the nemesis of the ruling party and which should be quickly dealt with on sight.

Also the Munyaule Market which was hatefully razed to the ground by our Police without notice is shamefully insipid. However I think no caring government can treat its citizens at Munyaule in that fashion.

Indeed I could not help but shed a few tears for the displaced and highly traumatized traders at the infrastructure. Let me here assure fellow Zambians that God is counting our tears which He will one day soon wipe out. May God Almighty grant us lenity?
