- By BUUMBA CHIMBULU

A TOWNHALL Meeting focusing on unlocking Zambia’s economic potential through enhanced import, export and border process efficiencies has been planned for this Thursday.

The meeting, to be held in Lusaka, is targeted at umbrella private sector bodies and respective representatives of their member organisations who are frequent importers and exporters.

This is contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.

“The meeting is targeted at umbrella private sector bodies and respective representatives of their member organisations who are frequent importers and exporters, including cross border transporters, cross border traders, clearing and forwarding agents, among others,” the statement read in part. The objectives of the process were to enhance the multisectoral liaison system between the government and frequent exporters so as to streamline business facilitation at borders and other exit ports.

It is also meant to register and address the challenges faced by businesses involved in regular import and export transactions across borders and other exit ports.

“Summary objectives of the process are to: communicate the efforts of the Government in addressing the bottlenecks at border areas and other exit ports.

“It is also meant to develop an action framework on the way forward, especially related to addressing administrative bottlenecks encountered by frequent importers and exporters at border areas and other exit ports,” the statement concluded.

During the meeting, umbrella bodies are expected to prepare brief industry-wide submissions on issues to consider and low hanging fruits in unlocking Zambia’s economic potential through enhanced import, export and border processes.
