HH EXTENDS OLIVE BRANCH TO YOUTHS

- By LUCY PHIRI

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has assured Zambians that his government was elected to work for the people and not to play games.

President Hichilema said the United Party for National Development (UPND) will work together with youths to defeat hunger and unemployment and not to play games.

Mr. Hichilema was speaking when he graced the youth day celebrations in Chipata, under the theme ‘Zambia at 60, be the change.

He said youths should emulate the works of youths of pre-independence and stay away from drugs and alcohol and focus on developing the country.

“We are here not to play

games, we are here to work and to work together with the youth as we have created employment for them, provide meal allowances, and there is free education and constituency development fund.

Youths should show commitment by working hard because nothing can defeat a dedicated youth. Unity is important and development is a continuous process as we should not give up,” he said.

Mr. Hichilema said the government is in the process of realigning the budget so as to support irrigations and the government will remove the allowances from workshops and transport and use the money in providing food for the people.

“We will support irrigation that is why we are amending the budget, we shall remove the money from workshops and transport, because it is wastage instead should be used to provide food just like using VX cars is of no use. There will no duty or tax to our farmers in the next budget,’’ he said.

Mr. Hichilema has urged the youth to work hard and resist from all the bad vices as they are the future leaders of tomorrow.
