Saboi apologises to court for misconduct

- By LUCY PHIRI

LUSAKA magistrate, Sylvia Munyinya has advised National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, Saboi Imboela to do the right thing by communicating to the court whenever she is not present.

Imboela, who showed up just before the state could make an application for her to be brought on a bench warrant, apologised to the court for her conduct.

In this matter, Imboela is charged with defamation of State House Communication Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka, a charge she denied.

When the matter came up for continuation of defence on Monday, State prosecutor, Lewis Kandela complained of the accused conduct stating that she knew that she was supposed to appear before the court but was nowhere to be seen.

Mr. Kandela submitted that the accused person should be warned for wasting the court’s time.

"Since the accused is here, I will refrain from my application and may the court warn her of coming late because we agreed that the matter was starting at 11:00 hours," he said.

The court advised her to take proceedings seriously and said she heard her apology.

Earlier, in her defence, Imboela told the court that

Hamasaka was her friend and they have never fought.

She said the Hamasaka she mentioned on her Facebook page was another Hamasaka who was fighting her and she was ready to bring him before the court.

Imboela also said that the statement she posted on her Facebook page stating "Hamasaka was caught red handed by the wife muchigololo, even as we speak marriage ili pama rocks, but somehow you want to play a personal war with me? We shall see who will regret." She did not direct it to Clayson Hamasaka of State House but a different Hamasaka.

The court adjourned the matter to March 27.
