PF in Kitwe celebrates youth day at secretariat

- By ROGERS KALERO

THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Kitwe yesterday decided to celebrate the Youth Day at the district secretariat to avoid planned attacks by the UPND cadres.

The party said they had information that the UPND to cause fracas and then in the process, instruct the police to arrest them.

PF Copperbelt Youth Secretary Moses Musonda was speaking yesterday when he addressed PF youths from the five constituencies, Wusakile, Kamfinsa, Nkana , Kwacha and Chimwemwe.

Mr Musonda said, last year during the Youth Day celebrations which was graced by President Hakainde Hichilema, some PF youths were left injured while others were forced to seek refuge in Living Water Global Ministries Church when a group of UPND cadres started throwing missiles on them after noticing that the former ruling party youths had outnumbered the ruling party youths.

“We have decided to celebrate the Youth Day at our party office because we don’t want violence, we don’t want unnecessary problems. We have enough problems of poverty, hunger , load shedding ,sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities like mealie meal and others.

“As PF, we were informed that the UPND cadres had planned to cause a fracas and then in the process, instruct the police to arrest us, and lock us into police cells. They had planned to cause a fracas like they did during the last year’s Youth Day where our youths were injured,’’ Mr Musonda said.

He also said youths in Zambia will ensure that the UPND government was voted out of power because they feel used and dumped by the Hakainde Hichilema government which has not only plunged the country into worsening poverty and hunger, but has also been divisive and threatening democracy and human rights through its dictatorial tendencies
