Youths in Luwingu urged to participate in youth day activities tomorrow

-

The United Party for National Development (UPND) in Luwingu has urged youths in the district to take part in this year's Youth Day celebrations slated for tomorrow.

UPND District Youth Chairperson, Geoffrey Mayengo, encouraged the youths to turn up in large numbers to commemorate the day, which will be held under the theme; Zambia at 60: be the change.

Mr Mayengo who was speaking to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview in Luwingu today, said the day is important for youths as they interact with government representatives on matters of national development.

He further appealed to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee to ensure that youths are recognised in the allocation of grants, loans, and skills bursaries in order for them to get out of abject poverty.

Mr Mayengo said this will enable them to contribute positively to the social and economic development of the district and the country at large.

He said youth day is observed to celebrate the contributions of youths in society and the development agenda of the country, as they are also future leaders.

Mr Mayengo has since urged the youths to support President Hakainde Hichilema’s ambition for the social and economic transformation agenda for the country.

Meanwhile, Patriotic Front (PF) Katopola Ward Councilor, Lewins Ng’andwe said youth day is celebrated to remember the contribution the youth rendered during the struggle for independence.

He said this is why there is need to focus on helping the the youths overcome the economic and social obstacles they face on a daily basis.

Mr Ng’andwe noted that to this effect, youths in the district have been empowered with loans, grants, and scholarships through the CDF to enable them address various economic challenges they experience.
