Farmers ask Govt degazette farming areas

- By ROGERS KALERO

FARMERS in Katoka Mema, Mwekera, Minsaka in Kamfinsa constituency have asked government to degazette the areas in order for them to start farming legally.

Area MP Christopher Kang’ombe said, the farmers have pleaded with him to engage the Ministry of Lands to ensure that their plea can be actualised.

Mr Kang'ombe said once the farming areas are degazetted, farmers will start contributing massively to the country’s food security.

"The Minister of Lands thinks the people of Katoka Mema, Minsaka and other agricultural areas are charcoal burners, but I have been engaging him until I convinced him that the people in the area are not charcoal burners, but committed farmers who usually produce more than 200 bags of maize in a good agricultural season.

"So, after I convinced him, he told me to take the matter to the Kitwe City Council (KCC) so that we can see how the matter will be pursued. With your support and encouragement, I will continue to pursue various initiatives and developmental agenda to benefit the people of Kamfinsa constituency,'' Mr Kang'ombe said.

And in response, residents of Katoka Mema said they will continue to support Mr Kang'ombe because he had demonstrated his desire to serve the people of Kamfinsa diligently.

Stewart Ngoma, a 64-yearold farmer said the people are happy with his zeal to ensure the constituency is developed as well as improving the welfare of the people.

"Honourable Kang'ombe, don't worry, just be strong despite the challenges you are encountering in representing us, we will continue to support and encourage you because you mean well for us, and the entire Kamfinsa constituency,'' Mr Ngoma said.
