SAMPA FREEZES LUAPULA MPS’ EMERGENCY FUND ACCOUNT

- By NATION REPORTER

BANGWEULU Member of Parliament Anthony Kasandwe has revealed that expelled Matero Member of Parliament, Mile Sampa and cohorts, masquerading as leaders of the Patriotic Front (PF) have frozen an account for the emergency fund that was created by Luapula Members of Parliament to help the people with emergencies in the region.

Mr Kasandwe said 12 MPs from Luapula came up with an initiative to open an emergency fund account to address various challenges people were facing.

Mr Kasandwe said Mr Sampa, purporting to be leader of the PF with the help of the Speaker of the National Assembly who had made changes of the leadership of the opposition in the House had since moved to freeze the Luapula MPs’ emergency fund account.

He said the MPs had written to the Clerk of the National Assembly instructing that a certain amount of money should be deducted from their allowances and deposited to the said account. Mr Kasandwe said everything was working well until the account was frozen by Mr Sampa and his group after the fiasco that they created in the party.

“Sampa’s group gave instruction to freeze that account, you can imagine the money from our own initiative, two weeks ago I went to Mansa and there was an emergency programme that needed money but when the signatories to the account were sent to withdraw money they were told that the account was frozen by the party,” Mr Kasandwe said.

Mr Kasandwe said it was hard to believe why Mr Sampa’s group was being allowed to do a lot of illegalities and wrong things such that even institutions like banks allow themselves to be used in that manner.
