UKA TO SUBMIT SUPPLEMENTARY PETITION FOR US TO SANCTION HH, SIX OTHERS
THE United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) says it will issue a supplementary petition to that of OCiDA to the United States government to sanction President Hakainde Hichilema and six government officials.
UKA Chairperson, Sakwiba Sikota said it was happening for the first time were governance institutions were being accused of infringing human rights.
OCiDA petitioned the US government to impose financial sanctions, visa restrictions and travel bans against President Hichilema and six of his high-ranking government leaders for having committed an array democratic rights against Zambians.
Meanwhile, UKA has appointed former Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) secretary general Lucky Mulusa as the alliance secretary general as a way of organising themselves to achieve their goal of taking the country back on track from where the UPND has taken it.
Mr Sikota also revealed that last week, he engaged Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Josephs Akafumba and the acting Inspector General of Police Mr. Muyambango at a separate meeting with regard to the registration of the alliance.
He said they agreed that there would be no problem in processing the finger prints of the proposed office bearers of UKA.
“However, he told us that clearance is not a one-day event and it will take a bit of time and if some of the people submitted will not be cleared, we have to submit new names to ensure that the full set of 10 has no criminal record,” he said.
And Mr Mulusa said once he met with all secretary generals from political parties in UKA, he would hit the ground for mobilisation.
