CHISENGA’S COURAGE INSPIRES FORMER STUDENT UNION LEADERS
FORMER students’ union leaders have called on Zambians, especially the youth to be courageous and speak the truth, without fear as has been exhibited by Ms Jean Chisenga, the Mambilima Patriotic Front Member of Parliament who courageously confronted President Hakainde Hichilema and characterised him as a liar and thriving on deceit.
Speaking in an interview, former Evelyn Hone College Students Union president Reagan Mpundu said the political landscape which was becoming hostile needed the full participation of the youth who have caused the change of governments in many parts of the world.
Mr. Mpundu said it was important for President Hichilema to be reminded that things were difficult on the ground and he should know the truth so that he could be prevented from governing the country on the slate of lies and deceit.
He said it was important to commend young parliamentarians such as Ms Chisenga for speaking against the impunity of telling lies in governing the country.
“Young people must come together and unite in making sure that those in power are held accountable for their actions. We have to end the culture of lying among our leaders and it was heartening to see Ms Chisenga confront President Hichilema over his numerous lies about what he believes he has achieved when Zambians are not seeing the benefits of his leadership.
We must remain resolute as youths because anywhere in the world, we remain agents of change. Many governments have changed because the young people had fully participated in the revolutions,” Mr Mpundu said.
And former Levy Mwanawasa Medical University's Union vice president Evan's Mumba said Zambians should speak the truth on matters that affected the citizens.
Mr. Mumba said Zambians should be able to emulate people like Ms Chisenga in that they were able to speak on behalf of the poor Zambians who had no platform to voice out their concerns to leaders.
