Let’s adopt healthy life styles - Kitwe Mayor
PHYSICAL exercises and a clean environment are important in ensuring a healthy, active and productive population that will support the local authority in its journey of transforming the city of Kitwe in addressing the challenges of waste management and road maintenance,'' Kitwe Mayor Mpasa Mwaya has said.
Ms Mwaya said, a clean environment will keep away diseases such as Cholera and others, while physical exercises will reduce stress and prevent communicable diseases.
Speaking when she officially launched the Kitwe Marathon which will be held on 6th April 2024, Ms Mwaya issued a resounding call to action for Kitwe residents to prioritise physical exercise as a fundamental aspect of their lifestyle.
“As we launch the Kitwe Marathon, I must call on the Kitwe residents to prioritise physical exercise as a fundamental aspect of their lifestyle. I must emphasise that regular physical exercise has numerous benefits which include ability to reduce stress and prevent communicable diseases,” Ms Mwaya said.
“The Kitwe Marathon will also act as a catalyst for promoting a culture of fitness and well-being within the community. As Kitwe Mayor, I must express my gratitude to the organisers of the marathon for making me part of the marathon for the second consecutive year,'' she said
And Christopher Nsenje, Chairperson of the Mukuba Fitness Squad, echoed the Kitwe Mayor's sentiments, expressing his delight at the return of the Kitwe Marathon for the second consecutive year.
Mr. Nsenje emphasised the significant role that the marathon plays in enhancing the city's health and vitality, particularly through the participation of its residents.
“The Kitwe Marathon provides a unique opportunity for runners to explore the most vibrant and scenic parts of our city,” Ms Nsenje said.
Mr Nsenge encouraged all interested individuals to register early for the marathon which is offering various categories, including 5KMs, 10KMs, 21KMs, the Classic 42KMs, and the 5KMs fun walk and run.
