MUCHINGA Province Permanent Secretary, Henry Mukungule has called for the effective implementation of activities under the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) in the region.
Mr Mukungule says the PDU committee must work to remove bottlenecks that have been hampering the timely delivery of development programmes which should benefit the people.
He stated that government is investing huge sums of money into various sectors but delivery has not been satisfactory in some districts for no better reasons.
Mr Mukungule explained that the activities under the PDU are target-oriented and require effective and diligent implementation, hence the need for the committee to resolve implementation rigidities in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) project delivery and other programmes.
“CDF monies are released at the same time but there is a district that is underperforming. What you need is to sit down with them and identify the bottlenecks. This is what is expected of this unit,” he said.
ZANIS reports that the Permanent Secretary was speaking during the first quarter meeting of the PDU at Chinsali Provincial administration on Wednesday.
He informed the PDU committee members that the delivery unit was established to ensure that areas that need urgent attention are addressed on time.
Mr Mukungule further urged the delivery unit members to strive to work extra hard in order to deliver on the various Presidential directives.
"You will be required to work outside your normal working schedules in order for you to meet the targets that the President sets for you," he added.
He further said the prudent utilisation of resources will be expected from all mandated departments that will be carrying out the PDU activities.
And Muchinga Provincial Planning Unit Assistant Director, Mataa Kamenda said PDU activities should be result-oriented through a multi-sectoral approach.
Mr Kamenda stated that a good communication strategy needs to be devised to set a roadmap toward achieving the set targets.
