House of Chiefs applauds HH
THE House of Chiefs has welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema's move to support traditional leaders with farming inputs.
House of Chiefs Chairperson, Chief Chisunka said the gesture by President Hichilema to provide farming inputs and irrigation equipment to traditional leaders demonstrates his commitment to ensuring that the country produces enough food even when the country is experiencing very low rainfall.
Chief Chisunka, said agriculture remains the backbone of most chiefdoms’ economy and the subjects are the major contributors to the country's food storage and security through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
Chief Chisunka said the gesture by President Hichilema will also contribute greatly to empowering rural communities and enhancing agricultural productivity.
“As traditional leaders, we recognise the critical role we play in ensuring food security within our communities and across the nation.
“As custodians of our chiefdoms' well-being, we pledge to ensure that the farming inputs provided by the government are utilized effectively for the benefit of all,” he said.
Chief Chisunka reaffirmed traditional leaders’ commitment to working with the government and its agencies as well as other stakeholders to realise the full potential of agriculture in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods.
“On behalf of my fellow traditional leaders, we extend our gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for his support and look forward to further collaboration towards achieving our collective goals of food security and sustainable development,” Chief Chisunka said.
