House of Chiefs applauds HH

THE House of Chiefs has welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema's move to support traditiona­l leaders with farming inputs.

House of Chiefs Chairperso­n, Chief Chisunka said the gesture by President Hichilema to provide farming inputs and irrigation equipment to traditiona­l leaders demonstrat­es his commitment to ensuring that the country produces enough food even when the country is experienci­ng very low rainfall.

Chief Chisunka, said agricultur­e remains the backbone of most chiefdoms’ economy and the subjects are the major contributo­rs to the country's food storage and security through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

Chief Chisunka said the gesture by President Hichilema will also contribute greatly to empowering rural communitie­s and enhancing agricultur­al productivi­ty.

“As traditiona­l leaders, we recognise the critical role we play in ensuring food security within our communitie­s and across the nation.

“As custodians of our chiefdoms' well-being, we pledge to ensure that the farming inputs provided by the government are utilized effectivel­y for the benefit of all,” he said.

Chief Chisunka reaffirmed traditiona­l leaders’ commitment to working with the government and its agencies as well as other stakeholde­rs to realise the full potential of agricultur­e in driving economic growth and improving livelihood­s.

“On behalf of my fellow traditiona­l leaders, we extend our gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for his support and look forward to further collaborat­ion towards achieving our collective goals of food security and sustainabl­e developmen­t,” Chief Chisunka said.
