Abduction, dehorning of Mosi-O-Tunya Rhino criminal - Sianga
THE abduction of the only male Rhino and translocating it to a private ranch and its eventual dehorning is a salacious scandal for which in any normal government, those involved could have been arrested and made top account, Namakau Sianga has charged. Ms Sianga, the Patriotic Front member of the central committee says Cabinet Minister in the new dawn administration had continued committing acts of corruption, some of which were based on pure criminality because President Hakainde Hichilema has failed to discipline his appoitees. Ms Sianga said President Hichilema should take the blame for failing to inculcate the morals and values of good corporate governance such as a natural asset such as the Rhino, which was allegedly stolen from the Mosi-O-Tunya National Park in Livingstone and transported to a private ranch where it was dehorned. She has called on the investigative wings to conduct thorough investigations into the illegal translocation of the, which was destined for Lusaka National Park but ended up in a private ranch between Livinge and Kazungula. “President Hichilema has failed to inculcate good cooperate governance skills into his Ministers and the entire government system despite him being a self-proclaimed private sector philanthropist in commercial motives. Surely we are taken aback by the unprecedented occurrences that do not match the character of a leader at the level of a President,” Ms Sianga said. “One case in point in point that confirms this failure to demonstrate good corporate governance in the so called new dawn government is the recent dethroning of our natural asset in form of a precious Rhino in Livingstone, the tourist capital of Zambia,” she said. She explained that while it was understood there was need to trigger growth in all sectors of the country’s economy including tourism, it was important that those in government endeavoured to safeguard the welfare of endangered species such as Rhinos which were in miniature population.
